Free Pattern: Kepler

Window1crop_2

Say hi to Kepler, a close-fitting cabled pullover which is a new free knitting pattern here on the blog.  Like it?

I really loved designing it, and I love wearing it too.  Kepler was intended to highlight the beauty of a single cable, in this case a 16-row Celtic braid, which might get overlooked within an Aran design.  I flipped the cable onto the horizontal, for a new perspecitive on the cable and to allow for a more body-conscious design.  Aside from the cables, everything on this pullover is kept very simple.  Narrow shoulders and waist shaping make for a flattering fit, while three-quarter sleeves and a boatneck look elegant yet simple.

The cable bands are knit first, then stitches are picked up along the edges to create the cast on edges for the front, back, and sleeves.  The collar is a simple applied I-cord edging.  If anyone out there decides to knit it, please let me know how it turns out!

I'm offering it for free, but I am thinking about setting up a link where you can paypal voluntarily and all money would go to charity.  That probably won't happen til the weekend, though.

Click here to download Kepler in pdf form.

PS: This link is to the corrected version of the pattern!

Emily! This pattern is awesome! I was going to make a rogue but I think I want to make this first. I think I HAVE to make this. Oh, you are corrupting me lately.

I love this, and I dled it. Let me know when you get that paypal thing set up, this is a payworthy pattern! And I love the idea of charity donation.

Oooh, what a great sweater! Thanks for the pattern!

That is EXACTLY the kind of sweater I have always dreamed about designing...only different. I've envisioned a sweater with cable bands around the bottom and the cuffs, just like yours, but also with flat cabled bands on the top of the shoulders leading to a cabled stand-up "mandarin" collar. Er, and mine would be much, much bigger. ;-)

Beautiful. Great job! Very inspiring!

Whoa! That baby is gorgeous! I feel this strong need to start it as soon as I can but I need yarn...

Well done! It'll be the next big thing; the one everyone wants to make.

Beautiful pullover! I recently learned to knit just so I can make something like this. Thank you for sharing the pattern.

Let me chime in: Great pattern - absolutely beautiful sweater! Thanks so much for sharing - I putting it on my to-do list. :)

OM! It's beautiful. Just when I thought I had enough fall sweaters on my want list...here you go and design something fun!

It's really really lovely. How nice to combine the complexity of cables into a pattern that flatters a woman's figure. So rare to see it done so nicely.

Gorgeous pattern! Thanks for sharing.

That is seriously cute. I love it!

It was nice to meet you at Stash the other week - wish we'd gotten a chance to talk. Hopefully we'll have a chat at a local event soon.

Ack! I'm a beginner knitter! This sweater is my new motivation to get good really fast!

Amazing - I love the way you flipped the cable on it's side.

What a beautiful pattern! Great job and thanks for sharing it with Bloglandia.

Gorgeous! Downloaded it immediately. Thank you for offering it to the rest of the world for free. It's amazing!

Very, very nice. I'm already scheming how to turn that into a cardie.

;-)

That is just wonderful! Thanks for making it available too. I really love those cables!

Oh merciful Cthulhu. I've been looking for a cabled sweater pattern for some special yarn I have... this has just the right amount of cables... gauge is close enough for cowboy work...
*applause*

(dare I ask how you made the pretty schematics? All the spiffy patterns have them, but I missed the memo on how to make them.)

Absolutely stunning. Cudos to the brilliant designer! Thanks for so generously sharing it with the rest of us!

Wow, it's beautiful! You are so generous to share it all of us! Great job, Emily!!
